Currently, we are seeking qualified candidates for a Controls & Automation Engineer opening to join our Central Manufacturing Engineering Group (CME) in Refrigeration.

Function Overview:

Whirlpool is looking for an experienced Controls & Automation Engineer with a strong background in appliance manufacturing operations.
As part of the Central Manufacturing Engineering Group, the successful candidate will work closely with North American manufacturing locations, E&T, Advanced Manufacturing and our new product organization to define, coordinate and manage the acquisition of the necessary capital equipment to successfully manufacture and deliver winning new products to the marketplace.
This will cover coveted brands such as Whirlpool, Amana, Estate, KitchenAid, and Maytag.

The successful candidate will be at the forefront of developing and delivering new process technologies by providing manufacturing early design consultation services, while determining the anticipated impact to the existing manufacturing footprint, including establishing the early capital budget estimates.
The Controls & Automation Engineer will be accountable to acquire and manage the associated capital equipment for new products from conception through to formal production handoff at the selected manufacturing location of choice.

The primary category you would support is refrigeration manufactured in Amana, Ia.
You must be willing to travel to design reviews and runoffs at the vendors.
There will be occasional travel to support project scoping activities and workshops.
You may be required to travel for in-house equipment trials, with possible travel to Europe and other American Regions.
You must be willing to step outside of the refrigeration category to support other new product development activities for other categories and plants if required.

Job
Responsibilities:

As the CME Controls & Automation Engineer you will be accountable for supporting new product integration by providing manufacturing expertise to each of the key functions.

  • Working closely with primary North American manufacturing locations to define capital purchases.
  • Build, installation, validation, and handoff of new equipment to manufacturing operations.
  • Lead efforts to make sure Whirlpool advances in the Industry 4.
    0 platform within its NAR manufacturing sites.
  • Ensuring that new manufacturing processes are flexible in design to accommodate long range new product cadence plans with the intent of minimizing future capital requirements.
  • Working closely with the Global Advanced Manufacturing Group to ensure that new processes are in compliance with the established Bill of Processes.
  • Leading projects and special assignments as required.

Basic
Qualifications:

  • Bachelor s Degree in an Engineering
  • 3
    years of manufacturing experience

Preferred
Qualifications:

  • Bachelor s Degree in Electrical Engineering preferred
  • Strong understanding of Lean Manufacturing concepts
  • Excellent project management skills
  • In-depth knowledge of Industry 4.
    0 concepts including M2M communication, apply the IoT to a complex manufacturing environment, automatic data collection and visualization, machine vision, robotic, smart sensors, etc.
  • Knowledgeable with and the competence in using Allen Bradley Studio 5000, Ignition / Java based SCADA, Basic Database Scripting and manufacturing plant network structures.
  • Demonstrated history of collecting and analyzing measurement / SPC data to identify trends, patterns and drive to root cause
  • Experience in new product introductions, including the direct planning and acquisition of the associated capital equipment
  • Hands on experience working in a heavily automated production environment is desired
  • Demonstrated history of; on the floor, get your hands dirty, work ethic
  • Demonstrated history of gathering input from key stakeholders and gaining their buy-in
  • Exceptional problem solving, analytical and critical thinking ability - to drive to outcomes that are game changing
